OUR BEGINNINGS
The Presbyterian Church in Sooke began in the early 1890′s when a group of people met in each others homes to worship. These worship services were sometimes led by a minister who would travel the great distance from Victoria to Sooke in a canoe. In 1898 Knox Presbyterian Church officially opened , sitting on the same plot of land that our Church occupies today.
In the early 1950′s there was much discussion about putting an addition onto the Church but eventually it was decided to build a new one. The new Church was opened in 1955 and the old Church moved to Throup Rd and it has served as an Eastern Star Lodge and Masonic Temple.
In 1998, to celebrate our 100th anniversary the Church members decided to build a wheelchair ramp so that everyone could enjoy our services. Also at this time a Time Capsule was buried in a small cairn you can see at the side of the Church.
If you take a stroll through the cemetery behind the Church you will find the graves of many of the pioneer families of Sooke
